The separation checklist

• A stage name with no connection to your legal name, and one you have checked is not already taken elsewhere.
• A dedicated email used for nothing else — not your personal address, not your work one.
• Geo-blocking where the platform offers it: your country, region or town, set before you publish anything.
• A separate bank account for this income, from the first payout.
• Nothing identifying in frame — no mail, no street views, no local signage, no distinctive window.

The mistakes that actually out people

Rarely a single dramatic slip. Usually accumulation: a tattoo visible in one shot, a place name in a caption, the same username reused on a hobby account, a reflection. Any one is harmless; together they are a search.

Metadata is the technical one people forget. Photos carry EXIF data that can include GPS coordinates. Most platforms strip it on upload, but not all, and not always from files sent in messages. Strip it yourself before uploading and stop relying on someone else’s pipeline.

Reverse image search is the other. Never reuse a photo that exists anywhere connected to your real identity, and assume anything you publish can be found by someone with the image.

It is more survivable than it feels in the moment. Tighten geo-blocks immediately, keep the account, and remember that platforms have processes for harassment and impersonation — use them rather than arguing in public.
